Culture

We try to create a clear distinction between managing and leading. Managing is essential to make sure the systems are in place and adhered to so we can run a smooth operation. However leadership is differentiated by motivating and inspiring all the team to enjoy their daily work, master their skills and feel progression. The senior team believe it is essential to lead by exam. We value all the team to lead within their comfort zone, so everyone has a sense of contribution and feels safe to voice their opinion. Because the team is made up of all different ages, background and experience levels we believe collectively that the pooled knowledge is far more valuable than just input from managers.
Our Purpose
Our aim in setting up Bright Side Vets, a vision shared by the Bright Side Crew, is to give every patient and client compassion, excellence, professionalism and respect. We describe how we try to achieve this through our mission statement

"At Bright Side Vets we will ensure every client and their pet receive the highest standards of care.

We will achieve our vision because of our crew who are knowledgeable, passionate and caring people that deliver dynamic and tailored services.

Communication is key for our relationships with clients and each other, which will be provided with expertise and honesty.

We will be recognised for being an independent family run business that is passionate about the community it is part of."

We believe in employing people who share the same values as us. Our values, decided by the crew, are Responsibility, Kindness, Team Work, Professionalism, Family, Quality, Trust, Sustainability and "Bright Attitude". The last one encompasses many attributes of a "Bright sider" - compassion, caring, empathy and support.

Psychological safety
At Bright Side we work continuously with each other to ensure every member of the crew is feeling supported in the workplace. We uphold our standards of care to our team by touching base in regular (monthly), scheduled 1 to 1 meetings with the crew member's line manager. These meetings allow for any issues to be raised in an environment that is safe and supportive.
Further to 121s we provide training on resilience and off the back of this are developing "supervision" sessions, where crew can unload safely with the support of a trained professional

Diversity, equality and inclusion
We employee a team of people from all different ages, gender, nationality, background and experience. We believe the diversity within the team is enriching to the culture we have, with different perspectives and ideals being contributed to team discussions. The one attribute that has to be shared by all is to have a fantastic attitude to the work and profession. We are confident we can teach the skills that may be needed, if there are gaps in knowledge, but attitude has to come from the core of the person. One of our core values is to have 'A Bright Attitude'.

Team engagement
We are a growing team all with different working patterns. To ensure everyone stays up to date and is also able to share their views on the workplace, we have regular departmental meetings as well as monthly practice meetings to make Crew members aware of any news or policy changes. Each day we run a clinical 'rounds' before 9AM to ensure everyone knows the plan for the day. It also gives Crew members opportunity to bring up anything they would like the whole team to be aware of.

Off the back of an away day at the start of 2022 (where we closed the practice and got an external facilitator to help us bring our values to life) we introduced an employee working group. This group are tasked to help develop the working practices and environment at Bright Side. They work along side management to help make Bright Side a positive and rewarding place to work through ideas that any crew member contributes.

Team building
Our Crew at Bright Side are a very sociable bunch so there are often informal 'get togethers' organised outside of work time, whether that's for a pub trip or a dog walk. We also like to foster these relationships in the workplace by organising specific social events throughout the year. Examples include our annual summer BBQ and an upcoming team building trip to an escape room.
