Culture

We believe a positive, inclusive team culture starts with how people are treated every day. Our leadership team aims to be approachable, supportive, and fair, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and able to be themselves at work.

We lead by example, promoting kindness, respect, and open communication across the whole team. Everyone’s contribution is valued, regardless of role or experience, and we encourage collaboration and shared decision-making so people feel involved and supported.

We also recognise that people are individuals, and we try to be flexible and understanding wherever possible. By listening, reflecting, and continually working to improve, we aim to create a workplace where people feel they belong, feel supported, and enjoy coming to work.
Our Purpose
Filey Vets is an independent practice providing compassionate care for our clients and their pets within our local and wider community

To deliver on this mission, we uphold six core values that guide everything we do:
• Teamwork: We support each other to deliver seamless care.
• Respect: We treat every client, pet, and colleague with dignity.
• Communication: We speak clearly, listen actively, and keep everyone informed.
• Dedication: We go the extra mile to help clients and their pets.
• Integrity: We are honest, reliable, and professional.
• Compassion: We show empathy in every interaction.

Team engagement
We believe that feeling heard and supported at work is essential, and we place a strong emphasis on open, two-way communication within the team.

Senior team members and leaders aim to be approachable and visible on a day-to-day basis, regularly checking in with colleagues and encouraging open conversations about workload, wellbeing, and any concerns or ideas people may have. We recognise that many of the most important conversations happen informally, and we actively make space for these.

We also provide structured opportunities for feedback and discussion through regular team meetings for vets, nurses, and reception staff, as well as whole-team continuous improvement meetings. These forums allow team members to raise suggestions, share experiences, and contribute to how the practice develops and improves.

Alongside this, we are committed to strengthening our formal support structures and plan to reintroduce regular appraisals from next year. These will provide dedicated time for reflection, feedback, and individual development, complementing the ongoing informal support already in place.

Overall, we aim to foster a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up, confident that their views will be listened to, and supported both professionally and personally.

Team building
We’re proud of the supportive, close-knit culture within our team and believe that good working relationships make a real difference to job satisfaction and patient care.

We encourage open communication and shared decision-making, whether that’s around clinical cases or how the practice runs day to day. Everyone’s voice matters, and we aim to create an environment where people feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and contributing ideas. Our leadership team is approachable and always happy to listen, offer support, or talk things through.

Respect between roles is really important to us. Vets, nurses, reception and support staff work closely together and are valued equally for the part they play in the practice. We believe the best outcomes come from working as a team, not in silos.

We also make time to connect outside of the busy working day. We close over lunch so the team can take a proper break together, and we support social events outside of work. These moments help us relax, get to know each other better, and build the trust and camaraderie that carry through into our working relationships.

Overall, we aim to be a friendly, inclusive place to work where people feel supported, respected, and genuinely enjoy being part of the team.
