Ultrasound CPD with Mair
Mair recently attended an intensive abdominal ultrasound scanning course in Lisbon, Portugal.
Abdominal ultrasound scanning is an extremely useful and non-invasive imaging modality that allows examination of the liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, reproductive and gastrointestinal tracts to check for everything from intestinal foreign bodies to tumours, pregnancies to bladder stones.
Led by the talented Dr Ana Mafalda Dordio, this small group practical course allowed Mair to spend the entire 5 days scanning lots of dogs and cats to gain confidence in locating some of the more tricky harder-to-spot organs (pancreas and adrenal glands), recognising pathology and learning how to sample abnormal lesions.
Not only did Mair learn a huge amount from the course which she looks forward to using in her work at Westport, but she also enjoyed meeting other vets from all around the globe and having some time to explore Portugal in the September sunshine!
