TimeToTalkDay 2026
Time to Talk is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation, and is a day for everyone to embrace those conversations.
Talking openly and honestly can be the first step towards better mental health for everyone. It can even save lives. Talking can reduce stigma and help people feel comfortable enough to seek help when they need it.
There are lots of ways to get involved in this, both in the workplace and at home:
- Text a friend and check in - ask them how they’re doing
- Go for a walk and talk with a friend or neighbour
- Invite a colleague for a cup of tea and talk
- Host a lunch and learn in the workplace
Here at Westport Vets, we’re committed to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of all of our staff. We always strive to have a culture of open communication by providing both formal and informal channels through which staff can raise concerns. We always encourage our colleagues to be open with how they’re feeling at any time, and know that there is an open door policy with all the managers - if they need anything then they just need to ask.
Asking for help is scary, but by starting conversations you’re already taking the first step. Throughout Westport practice’s, there are posters that encourage staff to take a moment for their own mental wellbeing and health, and also ask them to check in with one another. There are posters for having a “Tea and Talk” where colleagues can take a moment with one another to have five minutes away from the business of the practice.
As Mind says, you’re not only helping yourself and the people around you in that initial conversation but you’re also helping to break down barriers so other people feel more comfortable talking about their mental health.
