January Update 2024!

Hello everyone, and a happy New Year to you all! It’s been a bit of a cold and windy start to the year, but we all can’t wait to see what this year brings Team Westport.

We held our first CPD event of the new year in Linlithgow, which was all about Confident Conversations about Physiotherapy with guest speaker Charlotte Swarbick. During the talk, Charlotte discussed some case studies she had seen, along with some cases that physiotherapy can be used for. It was a very informative evening and everyone was itching to learn more.

RVNs Paula and Gillian also took part in the annual careers fair at Linlithgow Academy. The event was very busy, with lots of students stopping by the stall to find out more about a career with animals, as well as careers in the veterinary field. They had a table set up with items on display ranging from a microchip to stethoscopes to creepy crawlies in jars!

Some members of the team also went to an all day CPD about Performance Under Pressure hosted by Dr Stephen Hearns - an Emergency Medicine Consultant who is the lead consultant for Scotland’s Emergency Medical Retrieval Service. The team worked together and spoke about what we do in stressful situations and how we handle them, and then what we can do to make them better, smoother, and what can we learn from them.

Vet nurses Fiona, Paula, Chloe and Leigh also all went to SPVS (The Society for Practicing Veterinary Surgeons) Congress down in Birmingham and seemed to have an absolutely wonderful time - they even won the fancy dress competition at the Presidential Ball. The theme for the event was something beginning with ‘S’, so they chose Safari (although Fiona says that she really wanted to go as space-hoppers!). They won a bottle of bubbles that was enjoyed that night alongside the disco.
