Future Vets with Fiona

Westport Veterinary Clinic's Director of Operations, Fiona Leathers RVN, recently spent three inspiring days supporting the Future Vets Scotland Summer Camp at SRUC Oatridge.

The residential camp brought together 64 young people aged 15–18 from across Scotland, all with ambitions of becoming veterinary surgeons or veterinary nurses. Throughout the camp, students took part in hands-on clinical skills, farm animal sessions, animal rescue scenarios, team challenges and communication workshops, helping them build not only practical skills but also confidence, resilience and lifelong friendships.

For Fiona, returning to SRUC Oatridge, where she studied as a teenager, made the experience particularly special and brought back many happy memories.

Developing people has always been at the heart of Fiona's leadership, and that same philosophy is embedded within Westport Veterinary Clinic. Whether supporting school pupils taking their first steps into the profession or investing in the ongoing training and development of the Westport team, creating opportunities to learn, grow and thrive is central to the practice's ethos.

"It was incredible to watch so many young people grow in confidence over just three days. The future of the veterinary profession is in very safe hands, and it was a privilege to play a small part in helping them on their journey."

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such an inspiring event—and best of luck to all of the future vets and veterinary nurses as they continue to follow their dreams.
