Conflict Management CPD with Hannah R

Westport Vets recently hosted an in house CPD for their staff members on the 11th October to talk about Conflict Management in the workplace. The talk was on how we deal with difficult situations, both with clients and team members.

We had staff from all three of our branches come together to discuss what we can do when conflict arises in the workplace and how we can support each other during sometimes quite difficult times when we have clients in. From there, we split off into 3 groups to discuss what conflict means to us and whether or not there are positive or negative connotations to the words that we use.

DISC profiles have been a big part of our practice, in which we learned how our colleagues liked to be talked to - whether it was straight and detailed, or if they liked a bit more fluff details around what is being told. This has been a very useful tool in the practice because it has enabled us to be able to figure out how people want to and like to be talked to, and to better understand one another.

It was a very valuable experience and CPD because we learned what words, both to us and to clients, can be seen as having bad connotations and can spark worry and unease, but also what people would prefer to be talked to.
