Ellen's work experience

Ellen spent two weeks on a paid EMS placement with us, there was plenty to learn and get involved with!

I completed a two-week placement at Vets4pets Hereford as a final-year veterinary student.

I gained confidence with IV catheters, jugular blood samples, inductions and intubations in cats and dogs. The team were very happy to get me involved! I also got to scrub into lots of surgeries such as bitch spays, dog castrates and cat spays. I got to develop my instrument handling and ligatures during my dog castrate and cat spay surgeries under veterinary supervision. I did multiple cat castrates too!

Vets4pets Hereford has a high exotic caseload. Not having worked with a lot of exotics before, I quickly learnt a lot about husbandry, care and handling of many reptiles and birds, such as bearded dragons and gheckos. The team are very knowledgeable and has a high standard of care for the exotics, as well as the usual cats and dogs!

The vets and nurses are always willing to teach and answer any questions you have. The team are very kind, welcoming and fun to work with. If there was an area of something I struggled with, such as the initial appraoch and incisions for a cat spay, they were more than happy to teach me and let me have a go! ‘’

I hope you enjoyed your biscuits and card!
