What our nurses love about their job
For Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month our team have been sharing what they enjoy most.
Caz (Head Nurse)

“There are so many things that I love about my job- I’ve been at Greenbay for over 18 years so getting to know our lovely clients and patients is a big part of that. I also love how we offer such high quality care and expertise at Greenbay - with lots of our team having further interest and training in different areas.
I enjoy training our student nurses and seeing them flourish, and have a particular interest in orthopaedic nursing, rehabilitation and physiotherapy. I recently qualified as a canine hydrotherapist and my new “baby” is our state of the art underwater treadmill, which some of you may have seen! The patient outcomes we have seen so far with this therapy are great!”
Claire

"After 26 years of nursing I still love it. I’m lucky to work at Greenbay where we have so many opportunities to do really cool things and work as a team to ensure the best for our patients. I love diagnostic imaging, particularly radiography, and the CT scanner is my new baby. But cats will always be my number 1 love of the job."

"My favourite part about vet nursing is utilising my passion in canine behaviour, to help owners in need of help with their beloved companions. I love getting to know each dog’s personality, helping them feel safe, and building trust, especially with the nervous ones.
And of course… meeting puppies never gets old!
There’s something so special about supporting new owners as they navigate puppy parenthood, answering questions, and helping them give their little ones the best start in life. It’s such a rewarding journey to be part of.”
Ella (3rd year student veterinary nurse)

"One of my absolute favourite parts of veterinary nursing is building genuine connections with all our patients - every single one has their own cheeky little personality, and I love getting to know what makes them tick. I’m really passionate about making sure each visit to the practice feels as positive, calm, and friendly as possible for them. I also thrive on the challenge of caring for inpatients, especially those unusual or complex cases, and there’s nothing more rewarding than helping nurse them back to full health"
Lynzi

"I enjoy many parts of my job but especially being in theatre, monitoring anaesthetics or scrubbing into operations. I love caring for hospitalised inpatients, keeping them warm, comfy and pain and stress free during their stay. I have a passion for nursing exotic animals, and am studying for a certificate in this. I really enjoy working alongside our exotic vet Ian and treating all the zoo animals from Shaldon zoo"
Lily

“My favourite part of my job is inpatient care, when I am able to be with a pet from admit through to discharge. I also have a keen interest in hydrotherapy and I enjoy helping out with hydro sessions”
Ellen

“My passion in nursing is Emergency and Critical care. I have been lucky enough to be able to do some additional training in my area of interest since working at Greenbay Vets. I enjoy a challenge and find it the most rewarding when I can use the skills I have learnt to improve the care for our sickest inpatients. Watching pets be reunited with their family members at the end of treatment makes the (sometimes long) working hours completely worthwhile. Although this job is sometimes tough, I love working as a nurse and thoroughly enjoy all aspects. Having a lovely team to work alongside day to day is a bonus!”

"There are a lot of things I like about my job. You're constantly learning new things. I like that I get to focus on what I'm passionate about, nutrition and nurse clinics, while still being able to do other parts of the job as well. Nurse clinics are such a rewarding part of the job, getting to talk to the clients and getting to know them and their pets. I like that we're able to offer guidance on things like preventative care. And offer therapies like laser therapy, so that clients have that extra support outside of their vet appointment"
Nicky

“I’ve been a nurse for over 25 years and have been fortunate to witness the profession evolve and progress in many areas during that time. I have a strong interest in medical nursing, particularly cardiology, with experience ranging from ultrasound procedures to delivering high-quality patient and client care.
I’m also passionate about supporting and mentoring students throughout their journey to becoming qualified vet nurses. In addition, I am a trained Mental Health First Aider, committed to promoting wellbeing and providing support where needed.”
Laurie

“My favourite part about work is running hydrotherapy appointments and seeing the patients get better and better each session”.
