VetGDP success for Hasita
Our new graduate veterinary surgeon Hasita has successfully completed her RCVS veterinary graduate development programme.
Hasita first came to Greenbay as an RVC vet student seeking exotic animal experience on EMS. She very quickly realised she enjoyed spending time in the practice and was given ample learning opportunities, so ended up spending several weeks of her small animal EMS placements with us.
Fast forward to 2024 and the timing worked out for us to offer Hasita an assistant veterinary surgeon position, which she was thrilled to accept. Hasita has made a fantastic start in general practice, with her passion for learning new skills and her excellent teamwork and client communication abilities. She enjoys case discussions with the other vets in the team, for which we have ample opportunities.
Hasita was Greenbay owner John's first official RCVS VetGDP mentee. The VetGDP provides a structured support for newly qualified veterinary surgeons, and requires them to document and reflect on various case presentations in a portfolio (confidentially of course). The portfolio is submitted for review, and we were thrilled that Hasita found out she had 'passed' the programme last week. John and Hasita had regular meetings to discuss her progress, although it goes without saying this will continue even though the 'official' bit has been completed.
In addition to the VetGDP and in-house training Hasita has enjoyed completing online imaging CPD and is off to a practical emergency surgery course this week. Although there are 'new graduate programmes' available for those working in independent practice, Hasita wanted to choose courses she felt would be most beneficial, which we have been happy to support.
