Meet the Leaver
As Inès heads off this autumn for adventures abroad she reflects on her time working as a Veterinary Nurse at Greenbay
Tell us about how you came to work at Greenbay Vets.
I was a 2nd year student vet nurse looking for a placement and was really struggling to find a practice that would take me on as it was still during lockdown (2020). John and Laura kindly took me on as a voluntary place in order for me to continue my course and gain experience. Without them, I would have been forced to take a year out from my course as I didn’t have a placement. Within a month of being at Greenbay Vets they offered me a paid position which I was so thrilled about!
How have you been supported to develop professionally during your time here?
I essentially learnt everything I know at Greenbay Vets. My clinical coach, Caz Toms RVN, was absolutely amazing as was the rest of the team. She was so helpful and caring throughout my training and without her I am not sure if I would’ve had the same results!
Every team member helped me become the nurse I am today. Due to each nurse having their own area of interest I was able to ask specific questions to the member of staff with the most knowledge in that area. I loved working with such a knowledgeable and passionate team.
In what ways do you think you have changed as a person working here?
Working at Greenbay Vets has helped me with my time organisation skills but also my knowledge. I have gained so much knowledge from training and working here. At no point did I feel bad for asking a question as every team member is so knowledgeable and passionate about passing on their knowledge. As well as helping me in my professional life, I have learnt so many life lessons from here. I moved to the UK alone and would often have random questions about day to day things that anyone in the team would be happy to answer and help me with! This really did confirm to me how much everyone cares about each other in this team!
What has been your proudest moment working at Greenbay Vets?
I have a lot of moments that come to mind but I would say my favourite/proudest moments are when a patient who was very ill finally gets to go home. I love seeing how happy the owner and pet are to see each other and go home together.
Tell us about a case or client that will stay with you forever.
Again, there’s so many cases and clients that come to mind but there’s one Labrador in particular that touched all our hearts at Greenbay. Everytime he would come into Greenbay he would put a smile on every staff members face. That dog will forever stay in my heart.
Tell us about your funniest memory working with the team.
There are way too many memories to choose from but it’s safe to say there’s never a dull moment at Greenbay Vets!
What are going to miss most about Greenbay Vets?
It’s hard to choose just one thing I will miss about Greenbay Vets as the clients/patients are lovely as well as the team but I definitely will miss the passion and love for the job that each colleague has. It’s so inspiring to work with people like this as it pushes me to continue learning.
What would you say to someone considering joining the team here?
I couldn’t recommend this practice more and I am genuinely gutted to be leaving here. If you’re looking for a fun, exciting and innovative place to work then Greenbay Vets is the place for you.
