Learning experience we offer
EMS - we will discuss any specific objectives prior to your placement (either via email, or phone). Students shadow all of our veterinary surgeons, but we make use of their specific skillsets too - for example, Laura is best placed to teach ultrasonography skills. We will also personalise placements if required, for example, those with an exotics interest will shadow Ian during his clinics. We have a well stocked library, and time during the day for case discussions or research. You can expect to observe a variety of small animal consults, imaging, medical case management, dentistry and operations (routine through to referral level orthopaedics and soft tissue). We are happy to get students involved practically, and have the time to allow you to do this. As a nurse training practice, our nurses are excellent, patient teachers and as a surgeon, John is passionate about ensuring students qualify able to perform routine surgery confidently. We have a reasonable exotics/small zoo species caseload led by Ian, who has previously taught vet students at uni. Also happy to delve into the business side for those that are interested.
What we expect from you
We love teaching students, and will expect you to be interested and to ask questions. John is happy to get students involved practically, but will expect you to do some basic research beforehand i.e. read your notes about a procedure, or review the relevant anatomy in a surgical case. It is helpful to know what clinical areas you have covered and what your goals for the placement are.
Accommodation overview
We can provide very basic accommodation if required i.e. a sofa bed in the staff room with access to bathroom (with shower/bath), and basic kitchen facilities (microwave, air fryer, kettle, fridge, toaster). We are on a parade of shops so easy access to food/supplies. Bedding/towels can be supplied. We are in a tourist area so plenty of other options locally if preferred.
Other Information
We are based in a beautiful part of the world, with easy access to the beach for walking, swimming, paddle boarding etc. and can be reached easily by train.
