Other Information

We are more than happy to have students attend out Linlithgow & South Queensferry branches, that require either EMS for vet school, placements for nursing colleges/universities or school pupils for work experience or Duke of Edinburgh.

Our Edinburgh branch is quite tiny so we do not offer placements there, but you may be able to attend the consults or surgery being carried out there, with prior arrangement.

We regularly take vet students as part of their training to help expand their knowledge and practical skills. We try to tailor each student’s experience to help focus on areas they feel they want to develop which can range from taking blood samples and placing intravenous catheters to doing consultations and communication skills.

We have a few requirements for these placements - firstly, you must have an interest in veterinary medicine, these placements are not just for ticking a box on a form.  Secondly, you must be willing to join in with the team members with their fun activitiies, bring home baking and, most importantly, be lovely.

Our team are willing to show you everything that you need to know for your future career in veterinary medicine, and love it when you want to learn.

We love our work and really enjoy inspiring others to love it too. Graduating as a vet or nurse can be very daunting so gaining as much experience as possible is a must during student years. We have several students who continue to return every year and we feel that this shows our commitment to teaching and helping prepare students for when they enter the real vet world.

So if you would like to join us on your journey of placements, then please email Gillian, Abi or Hannah P on experience@westportvets.com

Gillian is our placement co-ordinator in South Queensferry, Abi & Hannah are our placement co-ordinators in Linlithgow. They will liasise with you regarding your placement and ensure you make the most from your time with us.

If the date you are looking for is not available on the calendar, please email, as we have availabilty at two branches.
