Learning experience we offer
We are happy to take, 3rd, 4th and 5th year vet students for EMS. We would speak to the student first to ensure their objectives can be met by us. The students will mostly be shadowing the vet on duty, consults and Operations, they will be asked questions about cases and may be asked to look things up when they go homes.
3rd year students will be given the opportunity to take bloods, place cannulae and castrate a cat (we have many rescue / feral cats come through the practice).
A 4th year would be expected to take bloods, place cannulae, castrate cats and will be given the opportunity to spay a cat.
Final year students will be expected to carry out anything that comes their way (under supervision).
On the first day, we give a tour of the practice, go through the risk assessment and we ask the students to give us 3 objectives they would like to achieve by the end of the placement.
EMS students will be expected to assist the nurses too, nursing and preparation for and clean up after ops as it's important they know the processes that go on to support them in their future careers. We ensure they know who to speak to if there are concerns or queries.

What we expect from you
We want people who want to be here. People with genuine interest in our business, the care we provide and the ethos of our practice and our team. Our vets like to engage with the students, ask them questions, so they should be prepared to learn, research and absorb what they see and do.
Accommodation overview
We have an self contained furnished annex attached to our house. If this is in use (occasionally it is). We can offer you our guest room (double bed), use of kitchen / garden etc. We could also provide transport to and from the surgery. We are on the Cotswold Way so there are nice walks through the woods and trails to decompress!
Other Information
We do not cover expenses but there is often free accommodation available and transport from the accommodation to the practice.
