EMS_goals.pdfLearning experience we offer
As a busy first-opinion and referral practice, the caseload we see is varied, allowing you to develop knowledge and experience in a range of scenarios. The role of veterinary staff changes daily and you will have the opportunity to be involved with everything: client communications and practice administration, consultations (both by vets and RVNs), in-patient admission, monitoring and work-up, and day-patient care including surgical procedures.
Should you wish to pursue experience with us, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Ashleigh, our Clinical Admin Co-ordinator, will arrange a phone call to discuss your availability, existing skillsets and goals for your time with us.
She will arrange an induction meeting for your first day and then you are encouraged to get involved straight away!
We will try to match your goals with interests of one of our own vets and they will be your clinical point-of-contact, to demonstrate and explain things to you and answer any questions you may have. Check out our Goals document, which demonstrates how we encourage you to aim, achieve and reflect throughout your time here.
Our whole team is knowledgeable, friendly and encouraging, so rest assured you will be well supported throughout your experience.
We look forward to hearing from you.
What we expect from you
Other Information
Our Lancaster branch is our main surgical and only 24-hour site. It is where our orthopaedic and soft tissue referral services are carried out, as well as a full range of first opinion services: consultation by Vets and Nurses, imaging and other diagnostics, treatment and aftercare. Procedures begin in the morning alongside 2-3 lots of consultations and theatres tend to be used most of the day.
Our Morecambe branch has a large, varied first-opinion caseload. Typically, operations are carried out in the mornings while 2 vets consult then the 3rd operating vet also consults in the afternoons.
Our Caton branch is our smallest, with a vet there only in the afternoons for consultation. There is no surgical suite but a happy receptionist available for calls and to arrange collection of pre-ordered pet supplies for people in this area.
Finally, our Milnthorpe branch is our newest. All fixtures are purpose-built, and the equipment is brand new. Milnthorpe houses our CT scanner too. Consultations occur all day and surgeries typically 3 mornings every week.
Lancaster and Morecambe branches are RCVS Vet Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) approved and partnered with UCLan Vet School. We are committed to facilitating IMR at these branches and cannot accept EMS at the same time at these locations.
If the availability checker shows no availability, it may be that Milnthorpe could still offer you EMS, please do still contact us if you are happy to see practice at Milnthorpe (they are a lovely team with plenty to offer you)!
