About us

Workplace overview
“I’ve found my forever job.”
Quote from recent team member appraisal

Since opening as a new independent small animal practice in 2007, 387 Vets has been on an exciting journey of growth and development. Set up and run by Hamish and Rachel Duncan, clinical and non-clinical directors, we started out as a one vet, one nurse and one part-time receptionist business. We are now 30-strong and have been through three major development phases to expand facilities and champion individual team members’ strengths and interests. The future excites us. There’s still so much we’d love to do!

In 2021 we opened our purpose-built feline-only clinic (The West Midlands Cat Clinic), the only one in the local area. We needed more consulting capacity, were looking for a niche angle and have several team members who hold additional feline qualifications including a vet with a Postgraduate Certificate in Feline Practice. An interconnecting cat clinic seemed the purrfect plan! Team love it (as do cats and owners!). The no-dogs-ever environment makes a visible difference to patient interaction. We’re an ISFM gold-accredited Cat Friendly Clinic and one of our RVNs has represented ISFM at their last two world congresses, promoting and demonstrating low stress practical strategy in clinic.

Not to leave dogs out, 387 Vets became an accredited Dog Friendly Clinic in the summer of 2024 and the Dogs Trust, who set up the scheme in collaboration with the British Veterinary Behaviour Association, uses photos of various 387 initiatives in practice to help promote the scheme nationwide.

2025 is proving to be a big year for us. We’ve just added a new dental suite to our portfolio to open up flexibility around dental-op scheduling, promote RVN-led scale and polishes and support our vet who we fully funded through a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Dentistry as she continues to grow her knowledge and pursue her interest in more complex cases. We’ve built an additional sterile theatre to increase ops capacity and give more op time to vets who particularly enjoy surgical cases. And we’ve expanded our quiet cat ward to accommodate the increase in feline visitors to our site. That’s not to mention a big increase in team space, including a new outdoor roof terrace to support wellbeing at work.

We’re proud of our facilities and hi-spec equipment, but it’s the team who make the practice who we are. We all invest in positive workplace culture and live by team-agreed values: this summer we’ve been carrying out refresher workshops on our culture and ethos. We’re supportive, we encourage growth and appreciate that feeling motivated at work and feeling part of something bigger matters. Everyone has a voice and plays an important part in our collective success. We’re incredibly proud to be the only vet practice to hold the highest Investors in People accreditation – platinum – and have done, for three consecutive assessments, since 2016. In 2024, we were shortlisted finalists for their Employer of the Year Awards. We’re also previous SPVS Wellbeing Award Winners.

Are you looking to join a multi award-winning practice with excellent care standards driven by a strong and supportive team? Does workplace wellbeing and feeling as though you’re a member of a workplace family matter to you? Are you interested in working alongside certificate holders (four of our seven vets have post grad certificates, and our 12-strong RVN team includes many individuals with additional qualifications in niche interest areas) and in sharing your own knowledge as well as continuing to learn and grow?

If the answer is yes, and you can see yourself being an invested member of the 387 team, we’d love you to get in touch.
