The role

Location
Baldrand House, Bowerham Road, Lancaster, LA1 3AJ, United Kingdom
Our 24-hour branch is based in Lancaster, close to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Our satellite clinics are in Morecambe, Milnthorpe and Caton. This role is predominantly to be based in Lancaster, with the need for cover (illness/holiday) at other clinics occasionally.
How the role has come about
We are constantly evolving and striving to offer the most comprehensive services to our clients and referring vets. In order to be able to continue to do so, we need more team members!
We recently opened our CT scanner and one of our 1st opinion Vets completed his surgical certificate, allowing our diagnostic and surgical caseload to increase. As our valued Vets pursue their interests and spend more time with referral cases, we need to ensure we have sufficient 1st opinion Vets to cater to our clients' and patients' needs.
Job description
The role is to provide veterinary services to our loyal client-base through consultation and advice, diagnostics, treatment and surgery, preventative health care and emergency provisions.

• 4 day working week (with same day off each week)
• 1:13 Night rota, working 1 week of nights (on-call only as RVN tending to inpatients and taking OOH calls) and off during the day
• 1:12 weekend day rota
• Salary £38,000 - £60,000

We have an excellent nursing team, including 19 RVNs and night nurses, who provide 24 hour in-patient care.

Colin, Kris & Alex, our surgery certificate holders, take cases in orthopaedics, soft tissue and spinal surgery, we have our own in-house CT and visiting clinicians in ultrasonography and cardiology.

Many of our vets have been with us long term, some started after seeing practice and some have been here over 20 years since graduation!

We would consider and support a new graduate or experienced vet wanting to pursue further training. We currently have vets enrolled in surgery, medicine and imaging certificates.

About us

Workplace overview
Bay Vets is a place where animals' needs are prioritised. Every individual within the Bay Vets team thrives to ensure every animal presented to us receives all the care it needs. Strays and injured wildlife are as important to us as cats with broken legs, dogs who have eaten things they shouldn't, rabbits with overgrown teeth and guinea pigs who are under the weather.

Staff at Bay Vets don't turn up every day because "it's their job", they turn up to make a difference in animals' and owners' lives.
Being a team of like-minded individuals means we naturally bond and therefore are friends as well as colleagues. The veterinary profession is not easy, but with such a supportive team around you, you'll always have shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen to you, a hand to pass you a brew... and a tail to wag at you.

Bay Vets believe our best asset is our workforce, and so we encourage discussions and suggestions when a need for adjustment is identified. Within recent months for example, changes to how we organise our diaries, perform our in-patient rounds, facilitate written prescriptions and store equipment have been made as a result of team members highlighting an issue and potential solution.

Bay Vets was established after existing practices were bought and merged. Today's Bay Vets has evolved from 1970s small surgeries, retaining historical influences and Victorian buildings that have grown and been adapted over the decades.

Dr Colin Houston BVM&S CertSAS MRCVS and Dr Katie Kyle BVetMed MRCVS bought the practice when the previous owner retired, and since then have implemented positive change to ensure the historic business remains up-to-date and a provider of the highest-quality care. Bay Vets is synonymous with personable, reliable veterinary services amongst residents of Lancaster and surrounding areas.
