Maternity/team expansion
Job description
We are looking to grow our team with another passionate Veterinary Surgeon. There is the opportunity for a non-permanent position as one of our lovely vets is due to go on Maternity leave in a few months. So we could take someone for Maternity cover, or a permanent position.
We always strive to support everyone's development through practical skill training, in house CPD and external CPD and courses. Many of our vets and nurses are undertaking Certificates (but many aren't, it's up to the individual!)
Shifts vary and can be designed to suit the right candidate. Night work is night shifts on a 1:14 rota, with 1:14 weekend inpatient day shifts.
You will be based at our main Loanhead Hospital, but with the opportunity to work at our branch practices.
We pride ourselves in offering our own out of hours service, covered by our own team of Vets and Nurses within our Loanhead branch.
We wish for the successful applicant to thrive within the team, building a loyal client base and taking part in the growing future of our practice.
A bit more about us.....
.....operating out of four branches across the Midlothian area the ICR Family now has 22 Nurses and 22 Vets, with 5 VCA's, two practice managers, two Clinical Directors, 18 receptionists and support staff. Students are regularly welcomed to the practice, and we currently have three SVNs undertaking their training with the support of their clinical coaches at ICR.
At ICR we LOVE TO LEARN. Some of our Nurses hold Cert VN ECC awards, others are sitting mixtures of behaviour, exotics and medical certifications. Within our veterinary team we have certificate holders in medicine, emergency and critical care and dermatology and more being undertaken in surgery and behaviour. We also have a board-eligible exotic Vet and are expanding our exotics service.
All training is fully supported and encouraged by the practice.
We have all the hospital gadgets you could wish for, including laparoscopy, endoscopy, digital x-ray, ultrasound, multiparameters, dopplers, fluid pumps, syringe drivers, blood gas analysis, biochemistry and haematology analysers, laser therapy machines, tonopens, the list goes on and on!
We are proud to provide a successful laparoscopy (keyhole) service to our clients with daily keyhole procedures taking place. We are an enthusiastic team who have a strong drive to improve practice standards and clinical excellence.
As a community-based practice we regularly take part in local fund-raising events and gala days. We create a yearly ICR Christmas Calendar with all proceeds going to a new selected charity each year. We also run a Community Nursing service where clients can request post-operative care, medication assistance and other treatments from our team in the comfort of their own homes.

About us
Workplace overview
Our main branch is in Loanhead, with satellite branches in Gorebridge, Currie and Balerno. We have been established since 1982, and pride ourselves in our reputation for providing the best care for our patients and clients.
We work hard and play hard - it is important for our team to enjoy their work. We provide our own nights service so that our clients always see our vets. Many of our vets and nurses are undertaking further study, and we provide General Practice care to an exceptionally high standard thanks to our driven and dedicated team.
Rotas are carefully managed and flexibility is key to us ensuring that everyone has the time that they need inside and outside of work.
Our Loanhead branch achieved RCVS Hospital Status in August 2021, a whole team effort we are extremely proud of!
We offer laparoscopic surgery, and were only the second practice in Scotland to do so when we started in 2011 - performing almost all of our routine spays keyhole ensuring the best outcome for our patients. We also have an exotics vet so get to learn about weird and wonderful creatures each day!
We joined IVC in 2018 and this has had a very positive impact for us, enabling us to invest more into our team and services. It opens up a lot of opportunities for our team with CPD but also getting involved in various aspects of the wider company e.g. the nurse academy and clinical board. This enables us to make an impact on wellbeing in the wider profession as well as in our lovely ICR bubble.
