Job description
Since our launch 10 years ago, we have nurtured and developed sustainable and exciting careers for over 20 veterinary new graduates, a number are still with us. Many are currently studying for or have completed a certificate. A number used our solid induction from classroom to consult room as a springboard into internships. A number have left to travel the world and then returned to us to settle and build a life in Norfolk. All remain in the profession.

When we appoint a new graduate, we accept that their journey with us will have an exit point, one, two, three, possibly five years later. Regardless of journey length we take the responsibility of each career ferociously serious from day one of employment. On-boarding is over 4 months. You have a mentor. We teach methodically. We teach patiently. We know that all learn differently so we adapt the program accordingly.

Our business is fully independent and family run! Our main hospital (Crimplesham) operates 24/7 and is RCVS Hospital Status accredited. We have a slightly smaller practice in Kings Lynn that is beautifully equipped. Our nurse team are high in numbers, experience and passion for exceeding expectations.

Digital X-Ray (DR & CR). Full Lab. CT. Cardiology level ultrasound. Dental X-Ray. Spacious wards. Abundant consult rooms. Two sterile theatres at each location plus separate dental theatres. In-house we have Surgery & Medicine Certificate holders soon be joined by Cardiology and Ophthalmology. We perform high level orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery and approach medical cases creatively and collectively. We work as a team drawing on one another’s skills and support. No one is an island, no one should ever feel adrift and lost.

Our standard working week is 4 days. Weekends are 1 in 5 with time off either side. We run our own nights as a working shift currently 1 block of 7 nights every 10 weeks with 7 days recovery following. Each day is split with time to complete administration and a full shut down between 12.30 and 1.30pm so lunch can be taken and shared with colleagues.
Full private healthcare from day one of employment. Mental health support in the form of an Employee Assistance Programme and periodic on site mental health support. Monthly lucky dip. Bright Exchange Perks. Your birthday given as additional holiday. Team members children each receive a £100.00 book voucher on their birthday (reading is important). Uncapped CPD (as soon as you complete your VetGDP).

Basic Salary starting at £30,000 per annum rising to £34,000 per annum at the start of month 5 following a successful probationary period. Plus a £5,000 night bonus when joining the night rota.

About us

Workplace overview
When we sit, late at night and the question is asked, “how did it all start”, we are hesitant to share our story. Why? Because looking back, it sounds all a little absurd. The following is mostly true. Except for the bit about cheese.

Vets 1 launched in May 2013 in a dining room, in the small village of Barton Bendish in West Norfolk. The decision to open the business was made exactly 21 days beforehand by Katharine and Simon Power and our kit list on day one consisted of a stethoscope, a half box of sharpies and a block of cheese.

Things are different now. In some ways. Our client base at launch was 100% LA. Since 2017 it has been 100% SA. Our kit list has expanded dramatically (2 stethoscopes, full box of sharpies).

We no longer work out of a dining room but instead, operate out of a beautiful 200 year old barn conversion (RVCS Tier 3 Hospital) and a beautiful converted old Bank (opened August 2020) in Kings Lynn.

Despite our sizeable work locations, each we find still has a soul. Weaved into the bricks and beams is a friendly, warm, family vibe that runs through the team and out into our community. Each location looks nothing like what you would expect but each houses what is required.

Our headcount at launch was 2. Today it is 65 and by default, we have become one of the largest independent practices in East Anglia. This makes us smile. Material things have changed but the most important things haven’t. Our commitment to protecting and nurturing a team of all job titles is paramount, and our ability to deliver on any development project within 21 days is legendary.
